Red deer regulation - but how?
“Red deer regulation - but how?” deals with the increasing red deer populations in Austria and neighboring countries. Rising populations lead to higher shooting permits and thus to more hunting pressure. Red deer populations become more “taught” as a result and their visibility decreases. In addition, poorly structured populations with a skewed sex ratio produce more growth than well-structured populations. The hunting of red deer characterizes the hunting year of many hunters and often follows old traditions. However, the game has cleverly adapted to these hunting methods. Successful hunting therefore requires more creativity, powers of observation and surprise effects. In order to maintain acceptance for red deer, sustainable, disciplined hunting is needed to limit game damage and secure the habitat. This book helps to find solutions to the challenges of red deer management and contributes to the long-term conservation of the species. Written in German.
